Beauty in the Mundane

  • May 31, 2015
It is a truly beautiful day in Maine today! The temperature is in the 70s, the sun is shining brightly, and there is a lovely breeze blowing. My dad’s barbecuing some chicken out on the grill, and the scent is wafting through the window as I am typing upstairs. I’m thanking the Lord for my dad’s health and that he’s outside grilling! His surgery went without incident and he is recovering, though it’s going to take some extra time. Thank you for praying for him, and please continue to pray for patience, since doctors orders leave him very limited in activity for the duration of the summer. That’s pretty hard for a man that loves to be outside planting a garden and doing yard work.
I’m grateful to the Lord for safe travels over the past few weeks, and for good visits to my supporting churches. It is good to be able to share what is going on in Togo and to thank churches and individuals in person for their faithfulness to support the work in Togo through prayer and giving. Please pray for good opportunities to express the personnel needs for Togo. Maybe the Lord has specific individuals in mind in some of the churches I am visiting.
I’m glad the Lord uses ordinary people for His work! This came to mind as I have been enjoying the oft maligned weed—the ordinary dandelion—over the past couple of weeks. I think there’s a parallel!
May the Lord bless you richly as you anticipate worshipping Him on His day tomorrow.

Thank you for being committed to pray for safe travels, and for effective communication in these churches. Not only do the people I come in contact with need to understand the work in Togo, they need to know how to uphold our ministries in prayer. Further, they need to know the needs for commitment to missions, and specifically to Togo. The CRC (Communications Resource Center) ministry needs someone in audio/visual production. The Togo field needs maintenance personnel, someone to direct literacy, an information tech person,  doctors, nurses, nurse educators . . . and on the list goes. I will do my best communicate these needs as the Lord gives the opportunities.
Special needs for prayer:
— My dad has a third hernia surgery on Wednesday, May 6. Pray for grace, peace, and healing.
— I am praying for two Americans and three Togolese with severe back pain. All are in various stages of treatment. The Lord knows who these are; please join me in praying for them.
— Literature ministry in Togo: I need to order songbooks, gospel tracts, skids of paper for printing, supplies for the CRC and Print Shop, and books for the bookstore. Please pray for the logistics of getting these items—over 1000 cubic feet—out to Togo. Pray for fair customs taxes; this is no small matter in a country such as Togo.
I hope you never doubt the importance and effectiveness of prayer!
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee,
and show thee great and mighty things,
which thou knowest not.”
