Pray for Ewe Bibles in Togo!

  • April 5, 2014

I’ve attached a photo here of Mme. Kalaba, who is one of our hospital employees. This woman loves the Word of God, and in this picture she is reading her French study Bible out loud. She is one of many Togolese I have witnessed expressing great joy in the Word. Any time you talk with this lady, she is ready to relate some principle she has learned.

What would we ever do without it? Think about it . . . no Bible in our own language???

Mme Kalaba square

For the past two years here in Togo, we have been unable to get copies of the Ewe (pronounced “evay”) Bible that the people are used to. I’ve written to you about this before, and today I’m writing about it again, because one of our Ghanaian brothers, also one of our hospital employees, is traveling to Ghana tomorrow, specifically take Monday and Tuesday to visit with some men he feels can help us get the needed Ewe Bibles. We are praying that the Bible Society of Ghana (we believe they are “in charge” of the Ewe Bible printing; Ewe is a large tribal language that spans both Togo and Ghana)  will agree to print these Bibles. We are suggesting they offer the 1991 version along with the new one that they seem to be insisting everyone use.

Please pray over the next few days, especially April 7 & 8, as our brother, named Divine, makes these visits in order to find out how we can get the needed copies of the Ewe scriptures. Divine is taking his vacation days to travel on behalf of the CRC bookstore. He has a painful back, so we are praying he can travel safely and with a minimum of discomfort. Please pray for results! The Lord obviously knows the solution to this situation, and can lead our brother to the answer.

I remember learning this verse many years ago, and it’s a favorite of mine:

“Your words were found, and I did eat them,
and your word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart . . . .” Jeremiah 15:16

And I love how God’s servant Job said, “I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.” Job 23:12

All of you know how important God’s Word is! Thank you for praying that the Bible Society in West Africa will print these scriptures for the people of Togo and Ghana.

French Book & Mr. Potato Head!

  • April 5, 2014

I want to thank you for praying for the French book project! The little book is done, and the first copies are being distributed. It is well received so far, and I am thankful. Please pray with me about doing an English version of the book. I’m waiting to hear from our missionary colleagues in English-speaking Ghana as to whether or not they might find it useful there. The French version has been subsidized by some friends, for which I’m thankful, as it enables us to sell them at a very low price, making them accessible to anyone that wants them.

Here is a very interesting little critter I found in the yard. I’ve never seen such a mix of colors, shapes, and designs all on one bug. He reminds me of Mr. Potato Head, like he was assembled piece by piece, but in this case disregarding “normal” conventions of matching things up! This little guy is about 1/4 inch long.

I can’t help but think that our Creator enjoys creating. After all, most of us enjoy making things in one form or another, and we are made in His image, so He must take joy in what He makes.

By the way, this little bug does show who created “hunter orange”, doesn’t it?

Thank you as always for caring, praying, and for taking time to admire our awesome Creator’s handiwork!

Have a joyful day!
